Michael Bigelow, President, recalls being fascinated by organs from his youth. On one occasion, when allowed to inspect an organ chamber, he was so engrossed with the pipes that after several hours the church secretary had to ask him to leave so that the church could be locked up for the night. After graduating from the University of Utah in 1972, where he majored in architecture, he worked for several organ builders and made numerous trips to experience first-hand the great organs and architecture of Europe. It was this exposure to European instruments that converted him to tracker organs. Upon returning to the United States, he completed an apprenticeship with John Brombaugh & Associates, a pioneer of the tracker organ revival in the United States.

In 1978, he set up his own shop in a small warehouse in Provo, Utah. By 1984, the firm had outgrown its cramped quarters and relocated to its current location, an historic church in American Fork, Utah. The building earned the Utah Heritage Foundation Award and is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. M. L. Bigelow & Co. is a member of the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America. Michael Bigelow is a member of the American Institute of Organ Builders, and is currently serving on the board of that organization. Michael's wife Beth and their two children live on the top floor of the old church.

Vice President and Tonal Director David Chamberlin became acquainted with Michael Bigelow in 1980 while attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He went to work for M. L. Bigelow & Company after graduating the following year with a degree in organ performance. He went on to earn a master's degree from the Eastman School of Music and then returned to the Bigelow Company in 1985. For as long as he can remember, David has always wanted to play the organ and to build one. Those dreams have been fulfilled many times over. As a college student he traveled to Europe and played many historic organs, and he has been a guest organist at the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. Since 1987 he has been the organist of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Salt Lake City. He has given recitals in several western states, often performing on Bigelow organs that he has helped design and build.
